Earth Moves
The Boudicca Window (2022)
Created by artist Tony O’Connell with the Earth Moves Community.
This work was imagined as a stained-glass tribute, a dedication to one of Britain's earliest Queens. A lens for viewing the archetype of the heroic Queen. She is an icon of defiance, resistance and courage in the face of all-powerful enemies, and she is shown stepping on the face of a fallen Roman legionary. Her original portrait was based on Tilda Swinton, and she has been given a deliberately queer aesthetic.
The work illustrates the holiness of the land and is created on a recycled window frame. This piece was almost entirely repainted recently and is now also sealed in clear resin to extend its lifespan. Created using recycled PVC Door and stained glass paint.
Funded by the Arts Council Queen Platinum Jubilee Fund.
